Overview
The Peninsula Apartment Council (PAC) is comprised of over 20,000 units in the four city, four county area of the Virginia Peninsula. The membership encompasses firms representing the multi-family industry as well as affiliate members who also support the industry.
As the local affiliate of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Multifamily Council, the Peninsula Apartment Council represents and serves the interests of the local multi-family industry. Members have access to industry-leading programs in education, networking, marketing, advocacy, and recognition of excellence, along with the tools they need to build and improve upon their businesses. These programs include:
- Legislative and Regulatory Advocacy
Since 1968 the Peninsula Apartment Council (PAC) has been a strong voice for the Peninsula multi-family industry through its involvement with legislative and regulatory activities at the local, state and national levels. Many dollars and much time have been saved through these efforts. Members have been active with and have served on building code committees, Landlord Tenant Commissions, and other advisory committees and task forces Additionally the Peninsula Apartment Council has helped author such legislation as the Virginia Residential Landlord and Tenant Act, which is aimed at protecting the landlords’ and residents’ rights under the act.
- Education
The primary thrust of the Council is to maintain a high level of professionalism through continuing education programs, seminars and workshops covering multifamily issues. It also locally administers classes for such national designations as NAHB’s Certified Basic Registered Apartment Manager (RAM), Advanced RAM and Certified Leasing Professional (CLP). Other certification and educational programs include:
- Certified Maintenance School composed of: General Maintenance, Introductory Electricity and Plumbing Fundamentals, Heating and Air Conditioning and Appliance Repair, Pest Control, and Landscaping.
- Annual Virginia Fair Housing Seminar
- Legal Seminars, conducted by Chip Dicks and other prominent attorneys, whose practices specialize in multi-family issues.
- Emergency Preparedness Seminar.
- Tax Credit Seminars.
Awards and Recognition
In addition PAC conducts:
- Community Achievement Awards.
- Awards for Resident Manager of the Year and Maintenance Person of the Year, various special recognition awards and such apartment community recognition awards as best building exterior, amenities, rental office and grounds presented at the Annual Peninsula Apartment Council Expo & Recognition Banquet.
- Community Involvement
As a concerned group of professionals PAC participates in numerous community activities which include the City of Hampton’s Housing Reinvestment Program, recycling events and crime prevention programs with various city Police Departments.
